San Francisco Giants vs. Pittsburgh Pirates July 6th, 2012 PNC Park Pittsburgh, PA
I didn’t take too many photos today because it was way too hot outside to do much of anything.
My day started off well with $3.27/Gallon 89 Grade Gasoline at my local BP. Apparently they ran out of Regular 87 Grade and had to offer the 89 at the same price. I wasn’t going to complain.
I forgot to mention a few days ago, the Pirates did not hold BP. We were entertained by Hunter standing in the Front Row screaming for Joel Hanrahan to toss him a ball as the pitchers warmed up. Surprisingly, Joel did toss him a ball. None of us were surprised though when Hunter missed badly and it fell to the field below where Erik scooped it up via the Glove Trick. LoL. I’m pretty sure Hunter has retired from Ballhawking and has decided to concentrate his time to becoming Pittsburgh Firefighter of the Year.
Hunter is pictured above giddy as hell after his Chief texted him and told him he could come help wash the Fire Truck. Anyways, back to BP.
I took this photo at the beginning of Pirates BP. After taking this photo, it was all business. I’m usually shut out pretty regularly during the Pirates portion of BP due to their inability to hit the long ball and also due to the fact that Zachary Weiss hogs all of the Toss Ups from Herbie and Rojas. However, I’ve been having mediocre success the past few days. During today’s portion of Pirates BP, I was able to use my cat like reflexes to snag a Ground Rule Double as well as catch a Home Run on the Fly as I leaned over the rail of the Handicap Section. I badly misplayed another Home Run because I was too worried about knocking over some moron who was seated on the corner of the railing in the Handicap Seats. I’m going to go on the record right now to say if another idiotic fan playing on their iPhone, not paying the least bit of attention to BP gets in my way, I will run their ass over. I’m getting sick of all these gloveless band wagon fans showing up for BP. If you’re not going to pay attention, please stay outside in the parking lot sipping your Corona and Lime.
The Astros BP today was GREATTTTTTT. Erik and I recorded Glove Trick Ball after Glove Trick Ball. I pulled up so many balls that the Gum Bands on my Mitt became so worn out I could barely reel in a ball. One of the highlights of the day was some Band Wagon Fan calling Erik a Douchebag for no apparent reason.
I was really hoping for a Home Run in this guy’s row because I would have flattened him like a pancake. I didn’t get a chance to do that but I was able to Glove Trick 2 balls directly in front of this guy. He was furious. I headed over to the CF Seating Area towards the end of Giants BP. I was immediately greeted by a ball that ricocheted right to me. I think it may have been a Toss Up from Roberto Kelly or Matt Cain intended for Scoonz. Needless to say, I was pumped. The random Toss Up was Ball #10 on the day for me. After BP, I grabbed a few drinks then headed out to the River Walk where I planned on relaxing for the game like usual. Prior to sitting down and getting comfy, I did a quick search of the Razor Weeds and found an Easter Egg for Ball #11 of the day. After finding that ball, I sat down and relaxed until the 3rd Inning. I was joined by Ian and Max in the Bottom of the 3rd. Max and I goofed around for at least an hour and lost 6 balls that sunk into the depths of the Allegheny River. Max headed home in the 7th while Ian decided to stick around since I offered him a ride home.
Ian would continue his streak of CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR when it comes to snagging a Home Run this season.
In the 8th Inning, Pedro Alvarez hit an ABSOLUTE BOMB.
The Home Run cleared the seats in Section 140.
After clearing the Seating Area and almost being pounced on by Harold who is in the Red T-Shirt, the ball took a wicked bounce and headed towards the trees outside of the PNC Park. Does anyone want to take a guess who was out there waiting for the ball to land?
For the 2nd time this season, I was able to snag a Pedro Alvarez Home Run that left PNC Park. The baseball is Pedro’s 16th Home Run of 2012, 36th Career Home Run.
I celebrated the feat with a Crunchwrap Supreme from Taco Bell then went home and got some much needed sleep. I will be attending the Pirates Game vs. San Fran on Sunday, so check back sometime Sunday for a new blog.

Did the seems on the homerun ball get torn? It looks like it in the picture but it could just be the angle.

The seams on the baseballs are perfect. However, the baseball got scuffed of the sweetspot when it hit the pavement and bounced out of the ballpark. In addition, the front of the ball where it says OFFICIAL MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL is flat as can be. When I say flat, I don’t mean just a small flat dent, this ball has the largest flat spot I’ve ever seen on a ball. I will be doing a blog sometime this season about some of the strange balls I’ve snagged this season along with close up photos. The Alvarez HR will be one of them. Please check back.
That sounds like it’s going to be an interesting post. I’ll look forward to it.
